Meet the Candle Maker, Founder and CEO

Dreamy Gallery Candle Co. started as the gallery of my dreams.

I know that it sounds cheesy, but at the time it was all I could think of. You see, entrepreneurship runs in my family. It started when we were living in Mexico. My parents used to have a mini market that sold everything from cheese to a certain type of conditioner. They worked hard to provide for our family, and I’ve never forgotten their industriousness to take care of us.

When we decided to move to California, I knew that I wanted to study business — and that’s what I did. I was able to obtain my bachelors’ degree in Business Finance with a concentration in Management. But even before graduating, I always wanted to get a “business job”, or at my least that’s what I called it at the time. My dream came true at 18 when I landed my first official job in sales. 

At first, it was everything I had dreamed of. I worked hard at my job, I kept promoting to higher level positions and even more, I was good. However, the dream I had built up for so long started to have cracks in the foundation. I realized that no matter how hard I worked, I was working for someone else. Every late night I pulled, every lunch I skipped, and every difficult sale I closed was going towards someone else’s business. 

It was around this time that I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I suddenly faced a huge change in my life, as I now had to depend on insulin shots to get me through the day. This was especially difficult because my crazy schedule often resulted in unstable sugar levels. 

It all came to a head when I had an incredibly busy day where I forgot to eat.  My sugar level hit a low of 38. I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t move — it was one of the scariest moments of my life. Thankfully, that day my partner was nearby and she was able to give me a glucagon shot. 

I was running myself ragged for a business that saw me as a replaceable asset. This was a huge wake-up call for me, and it was after this realization that I decided to start my own business. 

I’ve always considered myself a fearless person when trying new things. I give 100% to everything that I do, and I’m not a quitter. So when I decided to make my candle business dreams a reality, I knew that things weren’t always going to be easy. I had to put in the time and effort for my business to be a success. 

Even though it took time, I fell in love with the process. Helping others to see how candle scents can transport you to a memory or evoke emotion is something I absolutely love, and it makes work feel a lot less like, well, work. 

My branding is something very close to my heart. I decided to focus on women's empowerment and promoting positive affirmations. I spent six years in the corporate world, and I noticed how women were overlooked time and time again. I constantly felt that I had to prove myself to my coworkers. You had to look a certain way or be a certain way to be respected and for your voice to be heard. 

To tell you the truth, I hated it. I promised myself that I would always stand up for myself and what I believed in, and now I want to help other women do the same. 

With my candles, I want to give people, but especially women and Latinas, that extra confidence to be who they are and empower themselves. Everyone deserves to feel empowered, and with my candles, everyone can.
